  1. Curfew in Kashmir valley for 8th

Amid tension following the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen Commander Burhan Wani a curfew has been imposed in the state of J&K. Frequent clashes between the security offers and separatists claimed lives of more than 38 persons and several injured. Only BSNL post-paid services remains open. Trains have been called off.

July 8th, the notorious member of Hezbul Mujahideen, Burhan Wani and two of his associates were shot down by the security forces in Anantnag district. Normalization of present situation seems unlikely.

  1. Operation Sankat Mochan

The Government of India declared a successful airlift of Indian Diaspora stranded in war torn South Sudan. New Delhi dispatched two C-17 Super Hercules to evacuate more than 300 Indian nationals from Juba, capital of S. Sudan. Former COAS and present Minister of State, External Affairs V. K. Singh oversaw the whole event. However many decided to stay behind.

The latest conundrum started after a localized gunfight outside President Kiir’s residence. According to UNO more than 36000 Sudanese fled their homes.

  1. Arvind Kejriwal accuses Media House India Today

Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal urged in a written statement to Police Commissioner for taking action against India Today for using his photoshopped picture without the former’s consent.

  1. DMDK chief accuses Tamil Nadu Chief of defamation

DMDK chief Vijayakanth was accused of making derogatory remarks on Jayalalitha government during a public meeting last year. Thereafter he received sanction from Jayalalitha government through a Public Prosecutor.

Justice Mishra of the Apex court asked Jayalalitha to make a statement within four weeks on the question as: “Can a Chief Minister use her influence to instigate the government to issue sanction to initiate criminal defamation proceedings against a political opponent”?

The honorable Judge further stated that a Public prosecutor is not a postman neither his office, a post office.

  1. PM to meet Chief Ministers of all states

Termed as Interstate council which meets after every 10 years have been summoned by PM, Narendra Modi. Discussion on matters pertaining to interstate relationship, internal security, economy are on high agenda of the meeting. 17 ministers of Cabinet are likely to be present. The last meeting was held on 2006.

Pema Khandu, son of former CM Dorgee Khandu elected as chief of Congress Legislative Party after the resignation of CM Nabam Tuki.

At present the effective total strength of 58 Congress has 45 MLAs, BJP 11 and 2 independents.

However the much-anticipated floor test in Arunachal Pradesh is ruled out after the resignation of Nabam Tuki.
